for the Mayor's new bike network, which
includes physically separated lanes on
Sherbourne, Wellesley, Harbord, and Beverly
Streets. The Jarvis Street bike lanes will
remain in place for one year while
resurfacing work is performed on Sherbourne. |
July 2011
Managing Graffiti (LS5.1) |
 |
Council voted
for a new graffiti management plan that will
work to eliminate graffiti vandalism while
promoting urban street art. A special
committee will be in charge of making the
distinction between vandalism and art.

strategy for removing and recovering costs
for corporate graffiti advertising on
sidewalks. |

Toronto's mainland and the Billy Bishop
Toronto City Airport. |
July 2011
Management of Lakeshore Lions Arena (EX
7.1) |
 |
While Council
voted to take over the Lakeshore Arena after
the Lakeshore Lions Club defaulted on their
debt, I have always maintained that the City
should not be guaranteeing loans for outside
groups. I voted against this item. |
June 2011
New board for TCHC (ST3.2) |
 |
A new board
has been appointed for the Toronto Community
Housing Corporation. The public had lost
fairth with the previous board, which was
found to have been frivolous with taxpayer
dollars. A fresh start is what's needed for
this organization. |
June 2011
Toronto's ash tree infestation (PE
4.1) |
 |
Staff are
working hard to inform the public of the
infestation of Emerald Ash Borer which is
decimating the City's tree canopy. The City
will be using various means to inform the
public about the problem and help homeowners
remove infected ash trees from their
property. |
June 2011
Paid-duty
Policing (AU2.1) |
 |
The City
spends millions upon millions of dollars
every year for paid-duty officers for City
construction projects and special events.
We've asked the City's Transportation
Services department to develop new policies
so we can reduce this cost. |
June 2011
Whistle blower protection (EX6.2) |
 |
Council
adopted an update to our Whistle Blower
Protection Policy to helps protect City
employees who report fraud or wrongdoing. |
June 2011
Sale of shark
fin products (MM9.3) |
 |
I felt that
council should not make decisions on this
item until proper research had been done.
Thus I voted for the item to be referred to
the Licensing and Standards Committee for
more discussion. |
May 2011
Toronto's
garbage and recycling collection |
 |
Privatizing
garbage collection west of Yonge street will
help save the City $8 million, and move us
forward addressing our debt |
May 2011
City-wide zoning bylaw |
 |
The new
zoning bylaw was hastily written and caused
confusion regarding driveways for
homeowners. As a result, I personally filed
an appeal out of my own pocket to the OMB.
Council has since asked staff to revise its
content to address this and many other
complaints and appeals. |
May 2011
Wastewater treatment plants |
 |
In a time
when we are working hard to service our
City's debt, my colleagues on council
decided to vote for a $50 million upgrade to
our water treatment facilities. I voted
against spending when we don't have the
means. |
April 2009
Review of City services and user fees |
 |
Because of
the tough budget decisions ahead, city
council voted on a set of guidelines and
practices for 2011's core service reviews.
From May till June, we took your input to
help find out which services were most
important to you. |
February 2011
Salary freeze for Mayor and Councillors |
 |
We will be
facing some tough years ahead of us here at
the City. I firmly believe that if we are
asking our staff to cut back, that we should
lead by example. City council voted to
cancel a Consumer Price Index increase to
their salaries. The savings was passed on to
the City's student nutrition program |
March 2011
Toronto Community Housing Corporation |
 |
A special
meeting of city council was convened in
March to dissolve and reconfigure the TCHC
Board. A clean sweep was necessary to
restore public faith in the Board |
